Environment
Space contributes in many ways to our ability to understand, manage, develop and protect our environment and its resources. Data are collected in relation to water (oceans and inland waters), land-cover, and the atmosphere and assist us in understanding and acting in a broad range of areas including climate change and disaster management.
Space-based remote sensing provides an important contribution to many different aspects of our environmental activities, including:
- environmental science, allowing us to better understand Earth systems and their interactions;
- environmental monitorin, providing critical data to measure and track environmental parameters;
- environmental management, allowing us to intervene in to protect the environment;
- environmental stewardship, allowing us to increase environmental governance through informed decision-making.
Athena Global's diverse team includes people with outstanding experience in both environmental management and space technology applications.
Some recent mandates involving the application of space technology to environmental questions included:
- Space and World Heritage Conservation, led by Tim Lash
- Space and the North led by Tim Lash, Andrew Eddy and Christiane Maasburg
- Development of CSA Space-based Earth Observation Strategy CSA Orientation Papers, led by Christiane Maasburg, with input from Andrew Eddy, Howard Edel, Tim Lash and Tiit Romet
